Preaching is more than just words spoken on a Sunday morning. Its a process that starts with discerning what the Scripture is testifying to on that morning and ends (we hope) with an encounter with the Living God.

Anitra has extensive experience serving as pulpit supply to congregations in Oregon and Northern California since 2000. Anitra grounds her scriptural interpretation in the social and historical context of the First Century Mediterranean World while at the same time finding the corollaries for 21st Century Northern Americans. There is often a touch of humor in the sermon which helps congregations hear the deeper insights into Scripture and their lives.

Anitra is a Certified Candidate for the Ministry of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is actively seeking a call. Her Personal Information form is available as a PDF here.

From 1995 to 2000, Anitra* served the voters of House Distract 11 in Southwest Portland as a member of the Oregon House of Representatives where part of her work involved racial justice issues, inspired in part by a two week journey to South Africa in August of 1998. Anitra's work is profiled in two books, Forgiveness: Breaking the Chain of Hate by Michael Hendersn and Honest Patriots: Loving a Country Enough to Remember Its Misdeeds by Donald W. Shirver, Jr. In the course of this work, Anitra has been invited to speak and participate in panel discussions at national and international conferences including the 213th General Assembly of the PC(USA).
